Building the Capacity of Our Community

In APALC’s work on many issues (e.g., Census, citizenship, redistricting, heath care reform, etc.), APALC partners with Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (NHPI) community organizations. Some of these organizations are in Los Angeles or Orange County, but many are located throughout California, from San Diego to the Central Valley to San Francisco. Many are small, with only a few staff and limited budgets.

Statewide community-based organization (CBO) network

To increase the sustainability of small partner groups, as well as to expand their ability to work with APALC on education and advocacy efforts, APALC provides funding and other resources as well as technical assistance and training.  Topics include basic and advance training on fundraising, policy advocacy, and traditional and social media.

Non-profit center

For Los Angeles-based groups, APALC opened a non-profit center in 2011, to provide office, meeting and storage space for small and emerging organizations. These organizations will also receive training and technical assistance. For select groups, APALC also provides fiscal sponsorship and administrative support.

For Legal Help

APALC’s hotlines prioritize assistance to low-income persons in the following areas of law: family, immigration, consumer, public benefits, employment, housing, and civil rights.
